Day 1: Hotel In Muscat / Muscat Airport – Ibra – Wadi Bani Khalid – Overnight At Al Sharqiyah Sands (Wahiba Desert) (Approx 240 Km)
Your day begins with a pick-up at your hotel or Muscat Airport, where you will meet your guide and embark on your journey to the stunning Al Sharqiyah Sands, also known as Wahiba Desert. On the way, stop at the charming village of Ibra, famous for its traditional ladies' market, which takes place every Wednesday. This market is a vibrant experience, showcasing local crafts and traditional goods.
Next, visit Wadi Bani Khalid, a picturesque oasis nestled in the mountains, known for its clear, deep blue waters. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the small villages surrounding the wadi, set in this stunning natural landscape. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant near the wadi, tasting traditional Omani cuisine.
In the afternoon, continue your journey to the beginning of the Wahiba Desert. As you approach, you'll be awestruck by the vast, golden dunes that stretch 200 km in length and 100 km in width, reaching all the way to the Arabian Sea. These dunes have been home to the Bedouins for over 7,000 years, and you’ll have the chance to explore their incredible expanse. Venture into the high dunes, where you can watch an unforgettable sunset over the desert, an experience that will stay with you forever.
After the sunset, make your way to your desert camp, where you'll spend the night in the heart of the Wahiba Desert, surrounded by the peaceful silence and beauty of the dunes.
Day 2: Wahiba Sands – Sur – Wadi Tiwi – Wadi Shab – Muscat (Approx 350 Km)
After breakfast at your camp in the Wahiba Sands, begin your day by visiting a traditional Bedouin house in the desert. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the Bedouin way of life and their deep connection to the desert environment.
Continue your journey to Sur, a peaceful coastal town known for its striking traditional architecture. The town is an important historical center and offers a glimpse into Oman's rich maritime heritage. Stroll through the maze of narrow streets lined with charming old houses, each adorned with intricately carved doors and arabesque windows. The scenic corniche provides beautiful views of the Gulf of Oman, with dhows in the harbor adding to the picturesque atmosphere.
Next, head to Wadi Tiwi, a breathtaking valley that has attracted explorers for centuries. Ibn Battuta, the famous Moroccan traveler, described its flowing streams, which are still managed today through the ancient Falaj irrigation system. The valley is dotted with small villages nestled among cliffs, where locals have cultivated lush farms of date palms, papayas, and bananas. Take time to explore the oasis-like setting.
Arrive at Wadi Shab, one of Oman’s most stunning natural gems. Begin a 45-minute hike through the canyon, taking in the dramatic landscape along the way. As you reach the clear water pools, you’ll be able to swim through the warm, inviting waters from pool to pool. The adventure culminates at the final pool, where you can swim through an opening in the rocks into a hidden crevice cave, complete with a small waterfall. The sunlight filtering through the rocks gives the water a surreal turquoise glow, creating a magical setting.
After exploring Wadi Shab, return to Muscat, with an estimated arrival time of 17:00. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or Muscat Airport, ending your memorable journey through Oman’s stunning landscapes and cultural highlights.
